Eating disorder psychology in the Sutherland Shire and by telehealth

I’m a registered psychologist with the ANZAED/NEDC eating disorder credential. I work with people experiencing eating disorders and difficulties with food and body image, by telehealth across Australia or in person in the Sutherland Shire.

I use a non-diet approach. Treatment focuses on your relationship with food and your body, not on weight loss or rules about eating.

Who I work with

Anorexia nervosa. I work as part of a collaborative team with your GP, dietitian and other health professionals, so your physical health is monitored alongside psychological treatment.

Bulimia nervosa.

Binge eating disorder.

ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). A large part of my work is with ARFID. I focus on the fears that drive restriction, such as fear of choking, vomiting or certain textures, and on gradually rebuilding the variety and amount of food you eat.

How treatment works

We start with an assessment to understand what’s happening, what you want to change and what support you already have. From there we agree on a plan together. Treatment draws on evidence-based approaches such as CBT-E (enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy for eating disorders) and usually involves regular sessions with practical steps in between.

Working as part of a team

Eating disorders affect physical health as well as mental health, so I work closely with your GP and, where needed, a dietitian, psychiatrist or paediatrician. With your consent, I keep your treating team updated so everyone is working towards the same goals.

Medicare and costs

If you’re eligible, your GP can prepare an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan. This gives Medicare rebates for up to 40 psychology sessions and up to 20 dietetic sessions over 12 months. Your GP will check whether you meet the criteria. If not, a Mental Health Treatment Plan may still give rebates for up to 10 sessions a year. See Services for current fees.

Getting started

You can book online, or ask your GP to send a referral. GPs, dietitians and support coordinators are welcome to contact me about referrals.
